Here is an absolutely wonderful post by fellow blogger Book ‘Em, Jan O encouraging much needed compassion and support to those who are traumatized in some way by paranormal activity.
Ghosts: Some Thoughts About Support For Those Who’ve Seen Ghosts
We call it paranormal…but what is it really?
I have had people ask me this question time and time again and I have to admit, I find it difficult to answer. It’s easy to fall back on the standard definition of the word…some thing or event that is above or beyond normal, but that simply does not cut it and explains nothing. There are so many sub categories under the umbrella of paranormal, that to just ask what the paranormal is can be impossible to answer. Are you asking about ghosts, hauntings, cryptids, aliens, psychic abilities, NDE’s…what? There is no one way to explain a thing that is fundamentally unexplainable.
I have been immersed in the world of the mysterious, ghostly, unknown and paranormal for as long as I can remember. As a child it was books and more books of haunting tales and then came the movies in my teen years and all through these years I had experienced things I absolutely knew were not what the general public thought of as normal. As a result, a lot of what I experienced I kept to myself knowing it would not be taken seriously. As I grew into adulthood the experiences continued as did the reading and such until finally in 2009 I decided to get serious about paranormal research after investigating a friend’s apartment that was extremely active with para events. The place was amazing and it sealed my future as a researcher and investigator.
That brings us back to the question, what is the paranormal really? Well, it’s a matter of perspective. People have been researching the paranormal since time immemorial and we are no closer today to a solid answer. Whether you are using a notebook and pencil and possibly a voice recorder or a Mr. or Mrs. Gadget who goes in with all the latest ghost hunting tools, you are no closer to discovering what people have been searching for since forever. It boils down to this: if you are a believer in the paranormal and know without a doubt that it is real, then it is normal but just not satisfactorily explained but if you are a non believer then nothing anyone tells or shows you will ever convince you of the reality of paranormal experiences or events. It’s all about your perspective.
We really know nothing concrete about the why and how of it all, only that these things happen and have been happening for eons. Since we can’t seem to come up with anything that describes the paranormal conclusively then I say we are not supposed to know. If we really knew what the dynamics of various forms of “paranormal” were, then there would be no need for or desire to research it. Paranormal, supernatural, anomalous, fringe and other words are just poor blanket terms for things we really don’t understand and probably never will…at least not in this lifetime. The best we can do is to just keep forging ahead and learning as much as possible about what we know to be true but have no sure fire way of explaining.
I had several unusual, possibly paranormal events occur in my home last month. I can go for weeks or even months and never experience anything anomalous or even slightly strange in my house, and then things will happen in waves. Early January, as I was standing at the sink doing dishes, I dropped a piece of food on the floor and automatically looked down to my left to see if my dog, Ounce, had snatched the bit up. She had but the thing is, she has been dead for 18 years and had been my constant companion for the almost 16 years she had on this earth. I haven’t heard her toenails on the hardwood floors or her unique voice in many years but that day, as present as she ever was in life, waiting for a handout, she stood for a brief second. It was as awesome and beautiful as it was sad to the point of heart wrenching.
Around this time there were also some unusual noises that would take place in the kitchen behind me on and off as I worked at the sink. I could find no sign of anything that could have created those noises, those sounds of dishware being slid around. So…about a week after the visit from my beloved deceased pet yet another incident. As I was standing in the living room looking out the window, a presence whooshed by me with enough force that I felt the energy and saw it as a vaguely human shaped blur a few inches shorter than me. It made me take a step back and go WTF was that! No fear, just surprise. There have been the occasional disembodied voices, which I can never quite make out what is being said even though some are quite loud. Now before I tell you the rest I have to tell you that we collect antiques, rustic and prehistoric items well as have a cabinet full of crystals and stones and such. So hey…any damn thing could be here or passing through.
In the photos below, you can see where three weeks ago these circles or signs appeared on my shamefully dirty windows. You can only see them in a certain light and they are very difficult to photograph.
Last month sometime I read a piece with a photo of a similar image only it was much more detailed than my circles. I was as baffled as the authors were and thought it may have been a magnetic anomaly of some kind or an electrostatic charge. I was floored to find these on my very own windows!! Does anyone out there know what is going on? They appeared on my windows about two weeks after I read that article. Here is a link to that article.
That is another point to consider. I spend all of my free time (and I do mean all) researching all things paranomalous, all things universal and all things betwixt and between. It is a deeply ingrained part of who I am and that will never change. Does that then too…make me another source of energy for these already energetic entities? Moving on.
One morning between 5:30 to 7:30 am, three distinctly different things happened in a row. Firstly, from where I was sitting on the couch I could see out the kitchen sliding glass door. This tall black figure appeared outside the door and gone several times…always at least as tall as the door but thin. The wall phone shown here is not hooked up and I have not heard these bells in months. This morning they would randomly gently ding as if it was trying to ring.
I was ready to dismiss one as imagination and the other as odd but not paranormal and then one last incident startled me. As I moved to open a sliding door where I feed the birds every morning, the rocker recliner a couple feet away turned away from me by around 3 inches. I just shook my head because that chair has never moved by itself and had no apparent reason to do so this time. The floor is stable and the chair itself takes some force to move. I couldn’t recreate it or explain it. This doesn’t even include the sprinkling of “out of the corner of the eye” type sightings.
So why am I even telling you about all of it? I guess just because it was a very active January at my place and I’m the only one who experiences these things in my home. And I just felt like telling somebody, which is rare because I don’t usually say much…even on social media…I just post the stories and let people come to their own conclusions mostly. I’m more of an archivist than a conversationalist. So this post is a bit more personal than I usually get but I had to get it out, so there you go. Just to be clear, I am not saying all of these incidents were paranormal in nature. I am saying that I believe most of them were until I can prove otherwise. Since these are all personal experiences except the window dust circles (what the heck are they?!?), there is no way to prove they happened or not.
So far February has been uneventful paranormalogistically and that could go on for weeks. Or I could find out today that I misplaced my current book, hand lotion, oven mitt…only to find it later exactly where I left it.
The existence of paranormal phenomena is one of those things you’re usually either heartily for or against. In case you’re on the fence about the subject, here’s a list of 13 of the most prominent university sanctioned (and unsanctioned) odysseys into paranormal research, and what they found.
It has been a while since I actually wrote anything for this blog except for reposting a few excellent pieces from fellow bloggers. However, I have had some things rolling around in my head for a while and if I don’t get some of it out, my head may explode. My other life…maintaining a country property, flower and vegetable gardens, and some chronic health conditions, have kept me continuously fatigued and in no way eager to do any kind of writing. I do have a few things I’m working on and will post those here when they are ready. I do expect to keep on reblogging interesting and well-written articles. I do this daily in other social media outlets and see no reason not to share what I can here as well. I entirely believe in spreading the word and as it goes, I read voraciously every time I get a break. In fact, I escape into the paranormal, universal and quantum sciences as a way to unwind, relax and enjoy myself and as a reward for working through another tiring and painful day. A couple of things I want to say here have just been bugging me for a while and are not so much rants as a heads up. So here goes.
Do NOT buy used paranormal investigation equipment. I don’t care if you know the people who are selling it and trust them completely. Used equipment has been over used, abused, hooked, unhooked and put away wet time after time. By the time you get this stuff you can look forward to a dvr hard drive crash, batteries that won’t hold a charge, and others errors and break downs due to the rough road these electronics have already traveled. You might have scored an incredible deal on that fully loaded dvr but let a hard drive go down or something fry the whole damn thing and you have the expense of fixing it at a ridiculous fee and it will end up costing as much or more as a new unit would have. Buy it new with a warranty and if it fails then you might have some way to get it fixed without it killing your wallet. In the mean time, take care of what you have folks. This stuff doesn’t come cheap and it really isn’t meant for the uses and reuses we put it through, so be gentle with your “ghost hunting” gadgets.
I do think I’m just about done using the word “afterlife”. I believe I’ll start going with “nextlife”. The word afterlife has been so over said and prostituted by the news media, television and internet and delcared gazillions of times by paranormal investigators, including myself. The word itself makes no real sense to those of us who believe in life after physical bodily death…and parallel dimensions, alternate timelines and multiple universes. It indicates that the afterlife is later in time, whereas, the nextlife indicates another life next to this one, anywhere in time and immediately adjacent to or beside this physical life. I mean to say that this life and the next life and the previous life and on and on…are all next to each other rather than one after another. Maybe the word has just grated on me long enough just like the above detested “ghost hunter” reference.
Spelling. I recently received a request on a favorite social media website and when I went to check their profile, I found a two line description with four spelling errors. I did not scroll down to look at anything else, I just left. This particular group didn’t impress me as being the brightest lightbulbs in the package. Now hey…I’ll like just about any para page you can throw at me but seriously. There really is no excuse for this laziness in communication. I’ve seen this sloppy spelling and grammar increase a great deal recently and I just don’t understand why. I know I take creative license a lot with punctuation, especially commas, but it doesn’t look like a first grader wrote it either. So if you are not 100 percent sure how to spell something, look it up. Same goes for proof reading your work before you put it out there. Find the typos and fix them. If you want to be taken seriously at the outset, you cannot write that you are “A paranormul teem with grate skil for finding yor gosts and helping yor famly. We do no chagre for are survises we are hear to help yoo.” Ok…that may be a bit over the top but not by much from what I’ve seen around the net lately. Have some respect for yourselves folks, educate your mind. If you ever find a misspelled word or typographical error in my work, please let me know. Poetry doesn’t count 😉
So… since it seems that I am getting a whole lot more reading done than writing, I would love it if you posted a link to your paranormalogistically related blog or website in the comment section below. I will get to it eventually and very often I find something I will repost all over the place so bring it on. You can find me on the social media links to the right of this post, and there you’ll find tons of articles and blog posts that you won’t find here. And if you would like to add to the thoughts above please feel free to say what’s on your mind.
