They don’t hear when I speak out loud. Their eyes get lost as they search the crowd.
They just stare.. their tears grieving their past. I am a ghost in the shadows I cast.
They don’t hear when I scream their names. They don’t hear beyond their silly games.
I am the ghost in their closed mind’s eye. I am the ghost always floating nearby.
When they can’t feel me in the cold winter night. When their dreams swirl long with chill, Gothic fright.
I’ll be the ghost who haunts their dreams, the shades of fear in lost moon beams.
I whisper to them in their deafened ears. I howl in frustration at their petty fears.
I am the ghostly entity they will never outlast.
I shimmer and moan and flicker and roam—
It’s always the darkest hour that out-shines the past.

Someone posted a dream today and they were seeking to get some ideas about what it meant. I posted a response and let it ride. This person’s response floored me. I will post that exchange below. But first, here are some things you should know.
I’m no psychic or psychologist and I’m no Freud or Jung, but I am empathic to a degree and tend to feel things from all my senses rather than just one or two at a time. Occasionally this empathy comes through as synesthesia of a sort. My dream interpretations are based on universal dream symbols that appear across all ages, eras and cultures, and on my own instincts about the person telling the dream.
We are all empathic or sensitive to a certain degree and can learn to interpret the mind’s wanderings in sleep. You can look at books and articles online all day and find ten different meanings for every dream posted. Here are thirty universal dream symbols to get you thinking.
Dream interpretation is best done by the dreamer, however. A river in my dream may be a joyous, relaxing thing to me, but to you, it may represent a fear of water or drowning. My nightmare could be your happy dance dream. I mean, don’t just assume that monster intends to hurt you when it catches you or that dreams of death mean you or a loved one is going to die. Very often you are running from something you don’t want to face and death tends to mean transformation and/or growth.
So unless you are prone to precognitive dreams and have found yourself to be accurate over time, I would stick with the universal symbols as a jumping off point. Precognition is a post for someone else to handle as I don’t have enough experience to inform you.
If you keep a dream journal for a while you will eventually notice your brand of symbolism begin to repeat in your dreams and may be able to draw some conclusions to what certain symbols mean to you. Write or record everything you can remember as soon as you can, after you wake. Pay special attention to emotions and strange anomalies.
Pink zebras with glasses, melting clocks and flying through the skies like Superman do not belong in this conscious reality and the more you become aware you are dreaming the easier it will be to distinguish the meaning of unreal images.
If you are lucky, and you practice this technique, you may become lucid within your dream. I mean to say, you will know you are dreaming and will, to some extent, be able to control the action. You will remember these dreams as if they happened just yesterday…for the rest of your life. I will go into the fascinating world of lucid dreaming and astral projection in another post sometime.
Bottom line…the more you take conscious notice of your dream content the more you will begin to understand the weirdness. I can’t stress enough that the world of dreams is a world of symbols. I have noticed that the people in a lot of dreams appear to be aspects of one’s personality or emotions like love, hate, desire, and tend toward the feels of hopes, needs and wants.
Your mind will save up your days experiences and give you a dish that may taste funny or rotten at first…until you turn around three times, pet the blue unicorn, then take another bite and find out it is your favorite food. Back up and punt, and realize that person you forgave three months ago just dyed their hair blue, bought a puppy and learned to make gourmet seafood dishes. Just sayin’. I did not dream that. But it is a good example of the correlations you can unearth between your subconscious dream world and your conscious reality.
Here is the dream posted.
~The reason for my post tonight is I am looking for some dream interpretations
I had a dream two nights ago where I was in a unfamiliar house with my sister. I was helping her paint her nails and each finger was a different color. To make this more interesting they were colors of skittles, in fact she even put the nail wraps on each nail that had the S logo on it. This dream was so real feeling I felt as if I was in this house experiencing this in real life. When my sister was finished with her nails I even remember Helping her clean up and on a napkin laid Q tips that were the color of each one of her nails.
Next thing I knew she was eating something and started choking but after a few good coughs she smiled at me and said I’m good.
Maybe it was because I was thinking about her and worried about what I had just learned, but it could be she was just letting me know she really was “good”.
Not sure but i am interested in some of your interpretations. I think what made it seem so weird was the fact I really felt as if I was in the room with her experiencing this, more vivid than any dream I have ever had and with lots of details. ~
Here is my interpretation and I came close to nailing it right to the wall.
~Okay. Here is what I get from your dream. Remember dream interpretation is subjective and your personal interpretation will be the most accurate. The unfamiliar house. The house is a symbol of body, mind and soul. Rooms are aspects of your being…the top floor would be your highest spiritual self, the basement your ego and basest emotions. Think of your physical body as a three-story house of rooms. The bright primary colors you help your sister paint on her nails suggest a happy comradery between you two even though you don’t know her (house) as well as you would like. Bright delicious colors are always a good thing in a dream. The S could simply stand for sister rather than skittles. Dreams are good at throwing you details that are not readily understood. You helped her clean up the mess. Have you you helped your sis through a rough time lately? Is her house in an uproar or agitated state. Are there health issues? You don’t have to answer those questions, just tossing them at you to think about. She choked but then recovered and reassured you. You have been worried about her for some reason and I think this dream is letting you know that even though you don’t know what’s going on with your sis, its going to work out in the end. The clarity of the dream indicates it is very emotional territory for you. These brain things (dreams) don’t stand out and stick themselves in our conscious awareness unless they mean something important to the individual. Or it could just be about skittles. Sigmund Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.”~
And one last thing for y’all. Go to this website to jump off into any research your heart desires.

Dear family, friends and foes,
I write this letter to those of you who have passed on to another plane of existence. I wish to express my gratitude and respect on behalf of the thousands of paranormal investigators and ghost hunters around the world. After many years of research, we still don’t really know why we can see and hear you sometimes and not at others.
I ask that you forgive our errors in learning about your existence. Whether you are earthbound or have moved on to the great beyond, please remember the limitations of physical existence. There are many of us here truly trying to understand and communicate with you. We are letting others know what we are finding out so that they don’t have to be afraid of you.
I want everyone here on the earth plane to remember and understand that you are human beings, have been and always will be. Our perceptions are limited, again by physical laws and when you seemingly pop out of nowhere, we are startled. But if we were not afraid of you when you were in body, why should we be afraid of you now? I suppose if you were violent in body, you are probably not someone I want hanging out in my basement, attic, bedroom, etc.
But I know you wouldn’t be making the effort to communicate with us if you didn’t want us to understand that our soul or consciousness lives on after physical death. You wouldn’t communicate unless you wanted us to know what happened to you and to maybe help you with our, still as yet, limited resources.
I wish to apologize for those who try to provoke you into making your presence known by insulting you and invading your personal belongings. It is just that they want to capture evidence of your existence and since we have to deal with time issues, angering or upsetting you seems to work at times. It is not a good excuse but it is the only one we have.
I want to express my sadness for those of you who seem to remain stuck here on the earthly plane, unwilling or unable to move on. There is greater spiritual development waiting for you and you need not remain here, stuck in the past. Go home now and find your family and friends who passed before and after you. Find peace.
In closing, I again want to extend the utmost respect to you from all the investigators who are serious about finding out how it all works. Although we may appear to be nuts, (stumbling around in the dark, talking to the walls, etc.) to others and maybe even to you, we persevere in our quest for greater understanding.
If there is anything we can do or should be doing to make the communications easier, please try to let us know in the best way you can. I, for one, will continue my research and will be watching and listening closely for any sign of your presence.

Here is an absolutely wonderful post by fellow blogger Book ‘Em, Jan O encouraging much needed compassion and support to those who are traumatized in some way by paranormal activity.
Ghosts: Some Thoughts About Support For Those Who’ve Seen Ghosts
We call it paranormal…but what is it really?
I have had people ask me this question time and time again and I have to admit, I find it difficult to answer. It’s easy to fall back on the standard definition of the word…some thing or event that is above or beyond normal, but that simply does not cut it and explains nothing. There are so many sub categories under the umbrella of paranormal, that to just ask what the paranormal is can be impossible to answer. Are you asking about ghosts, hauntings, cryptids, aliens, psychic abilities, NDE’s…what? There is no one way to explain a thing that is fundamentally unexplainable.
I have been immersed in the world of the mysterious, ghostly, unknown and paranormal for as long as I can remember. As a child it was books and more books of haunting tales and then came the movies in my teen years and all through these years I had experienced things I absolutely knew were not what the general public thought of as normal. As a result, a lot of what I experienced I kept to myself knowing it would not be taken seriously. As I grew into adulthood the experiences continued as did the reading and such until finally in 2009 I decided to get serious about paranormal research after investigating a friend’s apartment that was extremely active with para events. The place was amazing and it sealed my future as a researcher and investigator.
That brings us back to the question, what is the paranormal really? Well, it’s a matter of perspective. People have been researching the paranormal since time immemorial and we are no closer today to a solid answer. Whether you are using a notebook and pencil and possibly a voice recorder or a Mr. or Mrs. Gadget who goes in with all the latest ghost hunting tools, you are no closer to discovering what people have been searching for since forever. It boils down to this: if you are a believer in the paranormal and know without a doubt that it is real, then it is normal but just not satisfactorily explained but if you are a non believer then nothing anyone tells or shows you will ever convince you of the reality of paranormal experiences or events. It’s all about your perspective.
We really know nothing concrete about the why and how of it all, only that these things happen and have been happening for eons. Since we can’t seem to come up with anything that describes the paranormal conclusively then I say we are not supposed to know. If we really knew what the dynamics of various forms of “paranormal” were, then there would be no need for or desire to research it. Paranormal, supernatural, anomalous, fringe and other words are just poor blanket terms for things we really don’t understand and probably never will…at least not in this lifetime. The best we can do is to just keep forging ahead and learning as much as possible about what we know to be true but have no sure fire way of explaining.
I had several unusual, possibly paranormal events occur in my home last month. I can go for weeks or even months and never experience anything anomalous or even slightly strange in my house, and then things will happen in waves. Early January, as I was standing at the sink doing dishes, I dropped a piece of food on the floor and automatically looked down to my left to see if my dog, Ounce, had snatched the bit up. She had but the thing is, she has been dead for 18 years and had been my constant companion for the almost 16 years she had on this earth. I haven’t heard her toenails on the hardwood floors or her unique voice in many years but that day, as present as she ever was in life, waiting for a handout, she stood for a brief second. It was as awesome and beautiful as it was sad to the point of heart wrenching.
Around this time there were also some unusual noises that would take place in the kitchen behind me on and off as I worked at the sink. I could find no sign of anything that could have created those noises, those sounds of dishware being slid around. So…about a week after the visit from my beloved deceased pet yet another incident. As I was standing in the living room looking out the window, a presence whooshed by me with enough force that I felt the energy and saw it as a vaguely human shaped blur a few inches shorter than me. It made me take a step back and go WTF was that! No fear, just surprise. There have been the occasional disembodied voices, which I can never quite make out what is being said even though some are quite loud. Now before I tell you the rest I have to tell you that we collect antiques, rustic and prehistoric items well as have a cabinet full of crystals and stones and such. So hey…any damn thing could be here or passing through.
In the photos below, you can see where three weeks ago these circles or signs appeared on my shamefully dirty windows. You can only see them in a certain light and they are very difficult to photograph.
Last month sometime I read a piece with a photo of a similar image only it was much more detailed than my circles. I was as baffled as the authors were and thought it may have been a magnetic anomaly of some kind or an electrostatic charge. I was floored to find these on my very own windows!! Does anyone out there know what is going on? They appeared on my windows about two weeks after I read that article. Here is a link to that article.
That is another point to consider. I spend all of my free time (and I do mean all) researching all things paranomalous, all things universal and all things betwixt and between. It is a deeply ingrained part of who I am and that will never change. Does that then too…make me another source of energy for these already energetic entities? Moving on.
One morning between 5:30 to 7:30 am, three distinctly different things happened in a row. Firstly, from where I was sitting on the couch I could see out the kitchen sliding glass door. This tall black figure appeared outside the door and gone several times…always at least as tall as the door but thin. The wall phone shown here is not hooked up and I have not heard these bells in months. This morning they would randomly gently ding as if it was trying to ring.
I was ready to dismiss one as imagination and the other as odd but not paranormal and then one last incident startled me. As I moved to open a sliding door where I feed the birds every morning, the rocker recliner a couple feet away turned away from me by around 3 inches. I just shook my head because that chair has never moved by itself and had no apparent reason to do so this time. The floor is stable and the chair itself takes some force to move. I couldn’t recreate it or explain it. This doesn’t even include the sprinkling of “out of the corner of the eye” type sightings.
So why am I even telling you about all of it? I guess just because it was a very active January at my place and I’m the only one who experiences these things in my home. And I just felt like telling somebody, which is rare because I don’t usually say much…even on social media…I just post the stories and let people come to their own conclusions mostly. I’m more of an archivist than a conversationalist. So this post is a bit more personal than I usually get but I had to get it out, so there you go. Just to be clear, I am not saying all of these incidents were paranormal in nature. I am saying that I believe most of them were until I can prove otherwise. Since these are all personal experiences except the window dust circles (what the heck are they?!?), there is no way to prove they happened or not.
So far February has been uneventful paranormalogistically and that could go on for weeks. Or I could find out today that I misplaced my current book, hand lotion, oven mitt…only to find it later exactly where I left it.
The existence of paranormal phenomena is one of those things you’re usually either heartily for or against. In case you’re on the fence about the subject, here’s a list of 13 of the most prominent university sanctioned (and unsanctioned) odysseys into paranormal research, and what they found.
