~Alphabet Soup~

by Jazzi Ryan Ranes

This shouldn’t be too hard, right?
There’s only 26 letters in this language I write.

All these shapes float down from the sky,
A truth, a wish, a dream,
a hope, a desire, a lie.

Letters rain down on my unfiltered mind,
Whetting my muse with abstracts, images, words I find.

All these shapes swim just out of sight,
A need, a want, a demand,
a hate, a passion, a slight.

This shouldn’t be too hard, right?
There are only 26 letters in this language I fight.

Letters float through my opened mind,
Stoking my muse with abstracts, images, words left behind.

There are so many words that can go in this soup,
Only so many thoughts that will ever take root.

And what am I supposed to do with that 27th &.
Swollen, bobbing, ever closer to the edge of my mind?

This shouldn’t be too hard right?
There’s only 27 letters in this language I write.
